Description
Landlocked by Rwanda, Tanzania and DR Congo, Burundi is one of the poorest countries in Africa. Coffee production has suffered from insecurity and a lack of investment but is starting to make a recovery. The growing conditions however allow Burundi coffees to produce a very fine cup.
The lot comes from the Mukerwa farmier group, a group made up of 81 farms, in the Kirundo province in the northern part of the country. The coffee is shade-grown among other crops, fully washed at a central wet mill and then dried on 200 raised beds. In addition to the traditional citrusy characteristics of African wet processed coffee, this lot also possesses an exotic spicy sweetness which makes it a very nice cup, particularly for the morning.
